Fabio Named “New Old Spice Guy”

Fabio is the new Old Spice guy, Adweek reported Wednesday.

The 50-year-old Italian model will pitch the deodorant brand owned by Procter &   Gamble, in a campaign by Portland-based ad agency Wieden + Kennedy.

P&G told Advertising Age that Isaiah Mustafa, the former NFL wide receiver who had been the previous “Old Spice guy,” is not going anywhere, however.

Wieden + Kennedy had helped revive the deodorant brand due to its ironic advertising, and the Fabio campaign continues that approach.

In a new ad posted on “New Old Spice Guy Fabio”‘s YouTube channel, Fabio rolls across the top of a grand piano next to two women, claiming, “Fabio can model Old Spices, yes.”

In a critique of the campaign, David Griner of Adweek wrote “He’s borderline unintelligible, although that seems to be the bulk of the joke.”
